Our Acti-Vention™ Conventions are designed to create a format for forums, training and active engagement with media coverage in real time. AMBASSADOR RIVERS ACKNOWLEDGES PEACEFUL RESPONSE OF GRIEVING INNER-CITY MOTHER

Global Peace Ambassador, Dr. Clyde Rivers presented the iChange Nations’™ Distinguished Leadership Medallion to Kim Thomas, who was recognized for her role in preventing a violent reaction in the City of Harrisburg Pennsylvania, following the tragic loss of her 20-year-old son who was shot and killed by Harrisburg police responding to a domestic violence call on August 7, 2016.  The incident occurred during a time in which violent retaliations to police shootings were breaking out all over the United States. However, when it happened in Harrisburg, this mother had a different response.

The presentation was made during the HoodRise Nation's second annual Golden Rule Award Ceremony hosted by founder and president, Dr. Nashon Walker, in Harrisburg, PA on Sunday, November 6, 2016. As Ambassador Rivers presented the award to Thomas, he told her, “You exemplified courage, saved a city, empowered a nation, and your son’s loss was not in vain.”

Two days after losing her son, Thomas gathered with civic and religious leaders in a local church for a community meeting with the Harrisburg Chief of Police, Thomas Carter.  She not only chose the higher road, by not lashing out at law enforcement, but she asked the Chief of Police and the community to make sure that another mother would not have to go through the same thing.  In a local TV news segment, she is seen embracing the police chief in expressing her desire for unity.

As he fought back his own emotions, due the magnitude of her peaceful and Golden Rule response, Dr. Rivers told a tearful Kim Thomas, “We are grateful for your heart. You are truly a leader; and the whole world and all of America needs to understand the goodness of God in your life and in your heart.”

Kim Thomas received a standing ovation as Dr. Rivers’ words caused the audience to realize the significance of what this young mother had done in establishing a global example of forgiveness and the Golden Rule.

“We’re not part of promoting the negativity that often surrounds the conflicts between law enforcement and young African American men,” affirms Dr. Rivers. “We are highlighting people like Kim Thomas, who have chosen the way of peace and the Golden Rule, in responding to tragedy. She is a powerful example to the whole world and we were honored to be part of this special moment in history.”

LAY A FOUNDATION WITH THE GOLDEN RULE

Much like the “apostolus” in the first century who acted as ambassadors of Rome to the people where they had expanded their kingdom, Jesus sent his disciples as “apostles” to make known the culture of his kingdom.  In like manner, Dr. Justice has traveled to 16 countries over the last 30 years to create cultures of honor and to improve the life of mankind.

Dr. Justice's home base is in Ft Worth, Texas where he leads a house church with a focus on developing the treasure, that is God’s gift, that resides in every human being.  Dr. Justice combines over 30 years of business management and ownership with a unique understanding of the seasons of life and how to communicate a path for growth and development. The family that is built in this intimate setting has resulted in additional outreach through its members across America and into other countries, reaching across traditional lines of separation such as race and gender. 

Relationships have also been formed with other missionaries resulting in a global impact that has literally reached around the world. He has also built a network of house church pastors in his city for mutual encouragement, council and fellowship. Collaboration among these leaders has multiplied resources and opened doors of opportunity for others to serve as well.

Dr. Dan Justice impacting lives in Nigeria

One of Dr. Justice’s current missions is partnering with New Vision Ministries from Alvord, Texas, to plant a church in the City of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. The residual effect of planting this church has been the opening of the door to be a mentor to a network of pastors in the city through training conferences, one-on-one council, and providing discipleship materials for the members of their churches. The mission also consists of establishing business ventures to create jobs and to partner with the government to invest into the communities in which they are engaged. Future plans include establishing a radio and television studio that will give an opportunity for those who are being trained to expand their influence to others.

Plans are also being laid to duplicate this model in Uganda, Kenya, and Honduras.

The glue that holds this all together is conducting ceremonies in cooperation with Dr. Clyde Rivers, the Founder, and President of iChange Nations™, where they create a culture of honor in the country in which they are working.  The Golden Rule, as a foundation, is a creative force that will change the course of a nation. ICN models this truth by recognizing and honoring people from every sector of society for the good they have done to serve humanity.  This creates good relations and sets a road-map for long-term relationships.

A GOLDEN RULE CONNECTION IN RACE RELATIONS

I had lunch with a very dear friend and brother. He and his wife have been instrumental in connecting us with the faith community in this region, bringing us into the confidence of many church leaders. We've been in fellowship, friendship and covenant relationship with them for more than 10 years, now.

For both of us, this lunch was a time to reconnect and get brought up to speed. In the midst of our conversation he asked some very sensitive questions, of which he felt that I was the only person he could direct them to and get honest answers, without being offended. He's White. I'm Black. We are worlds apart in life's experiences and therefore, our views can be vastly different.

He asked if it was true that the police stop and pull over African Americans for no reason.

I responded, "O' YES! I've been stopped by the cops just about all of my life. It's just a normal part of life where I grew up."

I gave him that response even as I recalled being stopped as early as 8 years old for merely walking down the street. All through my teenage years, young adult years, and right up until we moved to Harrisburg, being stopped by the police was just a normal part of life in St. Louis, Missouri.

I watched my dear friend's eyes become filled with tears as he observed the casual, matter-of-fact manner in which I answered him. In that moment, I knew why providence had brought our lives together. My friend and brother was genuinely touched by the experiences of my life. He did not minimize my experience. He did not rationalize it away. He did not dismiss it with over-spiritualization. He did not try to offer any answers, reasons, or excuses. He simply absorbed my life's experience into himself and he was visibly moved by it.

He asked a couple of more questions, based upon my first answer, but those were matters of statistics and trends that neither of us could explain or substantiate. The key moment had already come upon us, though. I felt it was another one of those historical moments that happens in an obscure setting.

Across this state, many are calling for racial unity events across Pennsylvania. Well, this conversation was a manifestation of how that desire is going to be answered.

I once wrote in one of our blogs about the need for various ethnic and cross-cultural efforts to be unified in purpose and how coming together had to be much more than big corporate gatherings that yield no fruit or change in our hearts and homes. Little did I know that I'd be sitting in a restaurant, experiencing another personal connection that could make a tangible impact on race relations.

I will forever be deeply touched by the look in my brother's eyes as I answered his sincere questions. What happened between us, in that moment, was the level of dialogue and understanding, I know, is going to be a vital part of what must happen to bring racial unity all across this region and state.

So, I encourage you today, to not only look to the huge politically-correct gatherings to experience these kind of moments, but allow these type of unexpected questions to invade your conversation with a co-worker or friend. The strained climate in America today is going to set up countless one-on-one meetings like this, that we can use to break down barriers and flood our hearts, homes and communities. When it comes to interracial conversations, you and I must choose to treat others the way we want to be treated. You never know who needs to drink from the overflow of your golden-ruled life.

At the IChange Nations™ Honor Event April 23, 2016, on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., Dr. Jenny Lopez, founder of the Women Add Value Global Movement launched her “Men of Courage Award.”  This award is significant to the Women Add Value Movement because Dr. Lopez recognizes the value of men who allow women to flourish and influence the world around them.  Because of her strong zeal for recognition for women, she felt it appropriate to find and honor men courageous enough to encourage women to seek out their purpose and passion.  Dr. Clyde Rivers was the first recipient of this award and four others followed during award launch.

Dr. Rivers said, “The Women Add Value Movement that Dr. Jenny is taking to the world is having a great impact everywhere she travels.  It is an honor to be the first recipient of this Men of Courage Award.  The Culture of Honor is spreading to the world and touching many because of people like Dr. Jenny Lopez. CC&H Award Recipients 

The Challenged Champions and Heroes (CC&H) is an IChange Nations™ initiative started by Dr. Robin Lococo and Dr. Penny Heflebower. They have a heart to reframe mindsets regarding individuals with disabilities. CC&H are looking at the challenges so many people deal with and desire to award these individuals for being over comers. Their movement has a two-prong approach; first to find and honor challenged individuals and secondly, to find and honor individuals and organizations that work with and support the efforts of challenged individuals.

On April 23^rd, 2016 on Capitol Hill, Challenged Champions and Heroes launched their initiative and were able to award several individuals that are helping challenged people in their sphere of influence. Dr. Ruth Mizell was one of the recipients. At over 90 years of age Dr. Ruth has touch many lives. She is a great example and worthy of this honor she was awarded.

Dr. Clyde Rivers, said, “I am happy to have Challenged Champions and Heroes as a part of our IChange Nations™ Culture of Honor. I appreciate the desire and passion of these two ladies to find and honor these courageous individuals. It was great to have the ability to launch their initiative on this global platform.”
